Have Kahn play possum? Having him be a decoy makes sense since he knew he was weakened and Kitana's armies was right on his doorstep so he probably had that clone ready to have them believe they killed him and lead them into a false sense of security. Then come back and BAM "surprise motherfuckers!" LOL. He got good closure in Deadly Alliance and bringing him back in Deception cheapened his character is so many ways.

I suppose he technically didn't come back to life in the old timeline, but having Liu Kang's ghost hang around and rescue the other heroes was lame and made them all look like such chumps. I would've preferred he stayed gone.

Johnny Cage could've stayed dead after MK3. His ending there was fitting closure for him, and he did pretty much nothing for the rest of the series except take up space.

Kano should've died in MK3 and never come back. He served his purpose, and he's a mediocre character who gets by because he happened to be in the first game and therefore is one of the sacred cows of the series.

I feel like Cyrax was due to die. He had a complete arc, and Sektor killing him would've built him(Sektor) and the Tekunin up as a threat.

Hsu Hao...he served his purpose and even the developers admitted they didn't want him back. But everyone had to return for Armageddon.
I think there are other characters who fit into that boat--only brought back for Armageddon--that could've stayed dead like Sheeva and Motaro.

That's really all I can think of. There are characters that could've been killed off just to add some stakes and clear the clutter--Stryker or Jarek or Darrius--but nothing really radical I can think of.

There were some resurrections where I didn't mind the character coming back, but the circumstances were bad. Like I didn't mind Kahn surviving, but the whole decoy clone thing was stupid.
And there are some where they shouldn't have died in the first place...like the heroes in Deadly Alliance or Shang Tsung and Quan Chi. Whether their story was over and they had nothing left to contribute or they're just a not a good character in general. With the exception of a few fights like Sonya & Kano, they never laid out how the big finale of MK3 went down, so everyone's going to have their own vision/head-canon of who fought who and when.

Personally, I always imagined the confrontation between Kitana & Sindel as something like the end of Return of the Jedi with the Emperor, Luke and Vader. Kahn wants Kitana back, she's trying to reach through to Sindel, and I imagined it as this big thing that was going on while Liu & Kung Lao were fighting their way to face Kahn.

I never really factored Mileena's presence because I saw her as occupied with Shinnok, so she never had a chance to really confront Kitana. I guess she could interact with Sindel and maybe that can play a part in her breaking free, but for me, I always thought Kitana & Sindel's thing should be about them and Kahn. If Mileena's involved, there's little pay-off because she doesn't have anything to do with Sindel for the rest of the series.

But that's me though. Like I said, everyone's going to have their own idea of what happened. Kitana had to get through Sheeva since she was her guardian right?

I also have a headcanon where she and Mileena have a small relationship. I figure Kahn would want Sindel to bond with her "daughter" while she is spying for Shinnock and once Kitana arrives they briefly fight and Kitana exposes her mouth to Sindel which could be a factor in her mind getting freed. It could add some more sympathy for her I feel. What do you think?

Also hope you had a Merry Christmas!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5163239498065823032.post-15986203484903122012020-12-26T12:32:25.532-05:002020-12-26T12:32:25.532-05:00They're not very specific on the matter. The most we get is Sindel's MK3 bio saying she's the "key to his occupation of Earth" which kind of implies getting to her would be necessary to defeating him.

I think her turning on him weakens his hold on Earth, and maybe him in general, which is what helps Liu Kang win.

Personally, I advocate Sindel's turn being crucial to Shao Kahn's defeat. It gives Kitana saving her more relevance, but also adds some drama/complication to the final battle, as opposed to it just being: Liu ran up to Kahn and beat him.

It makes a weaker story, in my opinion, having Sindel serve no purpose beyond enabling Kahn to invade Earth. Her turning on him should mean something beyond "Well, good for Kitana."Guy McNichtshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06807824295727282261noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5163239498065823032.post-21973220331149113332020-12-25T02:28:45.266-05:002020-12-25T02:28:45.266-05:00You know something I've always wondered, how e...You know something I've always wondered, how exactly does Sindel being free of Kahn's mind control lead to his defeat by Liu? She was instrumental in him invading but after that did he really still need her? What are you're thoughts?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
