Game of Thrones: What Happened After?

And thus, Game of Thrones has come to an end.

But what became of Westeros and the surviving characters in the aftermath? What future awaits the Six Kingdoms and independent North, good or ill? Who went on to prosper, and who sank into failure?

Let us take this journey....

Daenerys's Rage-Quit

So there it is. After eight seasons, Game of Thrones comes an end.

And...oof. What an ending it was.

As much as it seems like a bandwagon thing, I'm inclined to agree the show fizzled out in a spectacularly anti-climactic and unworthy letdown. I love the books, and the previous seasons of the show were arguably some of the best television produced, but, as tends to happen from time to time, when it came time to stick the landing...it crashed and burned.

Many would say things took a turn when the show went beyond the books—which would be circa Season 5—but I think the last two seasons, more than any other, saw a catastrophic drop in writing quality.

There's going to be no shortage of articles, essays and think-pieces all over the internet exploring the how and why, but one thing I want to focus on here is how things turned out for the Mother of Dragons, Daenerys Targaryen.

All Just Turds In the Wind - Thoughts on "Venom"

Late to the party again, but I want to talk about my boy and his movie.

So I saw Venom opening weekend. Up front, before I go into detail, I'll say I enjoyed it. It is definitely not a good movie, but I was entertained. I wouldn't even call it a "so bad it's good" type of thing—the film does seem to be in on the joke. It knows what it is.
To be perfectly frank and somewhat objective, aside from Tom Hardy's performance (easily the best part) and some flashes of absurd black comedy (which they could've used more of), it's an in one ear, out the other disposable superhero flick.

That's my brief summation review. From here, my actual thoughts on the film. SPOILERS ahead for those who care.

My Top 10 & 5 of 2017

It's the end of another year, and whatever else can be said about this year of our lord Cthulhu, 2017, at least there has been some good stuff to watch. I don't get to the theater that often these days, but this year actually saw me making the trip for three movies. A feat compared to last year where I didn't hit the theater once and by the end, I didn't have a Top Ten list so much as seven or so movies that I saw...half of which I didn't even like.

So let's roll with My Top 10 Movies of 2017...that I saw....

In Defense of Venom

So I have a confession to make: I'm a big Venom mark. Specifically, the original Eddie Brock Venom. He is, for all intents and purposes, the character that got me into comics, and to this day, if I was to rank my favorite characters, he would probably remain on top.
Yes, as much as I love Wonder Woman, and even though I've devoted several essay-length blog posts to her, Venom might always be my number one.

So what's the big deal? After all, Venom has been widely popular since his introduction and remains one of Marvel's most iconic and famous characters.

Thoughts on "Justice League"

So Justice League has come and I have thoughts.

I'll preface this by saying I haven't seen the movie, nor do I plan to anytime soon. Everything I'm going to write here is based on spoilers, word of mouth and reviews, which I'll admit might not be fair or entirely accurate.
Some may believe that automatically disqualifies anything I say, but......meh. This isn't a review, and I'm not looking to sway people who loved the movie. If I'm completely off the mark here, then that's fine. Hell, I might even be relieved.

[UPDATE: Yes, I did eventually watch it on TV. I stand by everything I say here. In fact, it was even worse than I heard. So...yeah. If nothing else, I'm glad this movie landed with a wet thud and will most likely be ignored, assuming the DCEU even bothers continuing its continuity.]

Summer of Wonder

So what a summer it's been for Wonder Woman, eh?

Yeah, I'm pretty late to the party, but I thought I'd chime in with some thoughts on the movie. Especially since all my previous posts on the matter were from before the film's release, so I thought an update was warranted.
